Life kicking my ass on all fronts
by Matt on Oct.02, 2008 at 19:01 CDT, under school
I got one of the highest grades on my first test this semester. That grade was a 70. Fun. We have another test on the assessment and treatment for mental health disorders starting tomorrow, with only 60+ pages of notes in addition to the actual text to read.
My house is a disaster due to not being her for two weeks plus not having an ounce of time or perhaps more likely willpower this week.
Nothing much to add– just tired at the moment.
School’s back in session

And like clockwork, I can look forward to yet another unorganized year. Once, just once when I sign up for classes on given days, I’d like school to only occur on those days and not random non-scheduled-but mandatory days every other week.
Any of you working in a hospital know that we often do work schedules far in advance- my facility is no exception. We’re already filling out the schedule through the end of December, and I now have to go muck things up by playing a delicate game of tango with the four different people responsible for scheduling in my department (that’s another story…) in order that I don’t get penalized in school.
Systemic Venous Tachycardia

No, there isn’t a typo in the headline. That’s actually how one of my instructors defined SVT in our cardiac lecture last semester. While she was an otherwise great instructor, clearly cardiac wasn’t her bag.
I just got my calendar for this semester, and it looks like fun. We have great second year instructors including a pediatric nurse practitioner and an emergency clinical nurse specialist, and of course the material itself is no longer the watered down basics. Here’s my mini-syllabus:
- Maternity
- Newborn
- Cardiac/Respiratory (Adult+Pedi)
- Legal stuff
- Blood
- Neuro
- Mental Health
- Renal
- More Legal Stuff
- TRAUMA / SHOCK / BURNS, baby!
They always save the best lecture series for last.
